About 50 area residents spent the morning getting to know more about Indian Lake Local Schools during the first ever Senior Citizens Appreciation Breakfast at Indian Lake Elementary School.
Interim Superintendent Rob Underwood wants to reach out to members of the community to build even stronger connections through a series of breakfast meetings.
"Outreach through events such as this is not a new idea, but the sentiment is the same. This is your school. We want to know you and we want to collaborate on the challenges and achievements that we share in the schools and in the community. We welcome you to come learn more about us and to see what education is like 2017," Underwood explained.
He highlighted upcoming activities on campus including the ILHS/FFA Hog Roast, the Gatekeeper Series on suicide prevention and the new indoor walking program that IL Schools will host in the winter months.
Then the ILES Food Service Staff served a meal of eggs, french toast sticks, sausage links and hash browns--some of the same items students are routinely served at breakfast.
The Leapin' Lakers Jump Rope Club, one the elementary school's largest and most active clubs, debuted their new country-music themed show for entertainment.
ILES 4th grade Student Council members helped welcome residents, serve breakfast and led building tours at the conclusion of the event.
Indian Lake High School and Middle School will also host breakfast meetings later in the 2017-18 school year.
