The Indian Lake Board of Education got an update on the recent HVAC upgrade and allowed the Indian Lake Music Boosters to toot their own horn during the April regular meeting.
IL Co-Facilities Director Matt Hurley demonstrated how the district's new integrated HVAC controls work. Over the past year, the school system has been working with the Waibel company to unite all three Indian Lake School buildings' heating and cooling systems into one easily accessible computer program. This allows Hurley and Co-Facilities director Dustin Plikerd the ability to pinpoint problems and quickly find solutions. In addition, the upgrades allow for better air circulation to combat Covid-19. Hurley also detailed plans to repave parts of the parking lots, install LED lighting upgrades and replace 50-year-old lockers at ILHS with gently-used lockers from Ohio Hi Point Career Center over the summer.
Indian Lake Music Boosters President April King also presented to board members. She explained the role the organization plays in supporting all music programs at Indian Lake Schools. From purchasing instruments and sheet music, to assisting with auditorium upgrades, the Music Boosters help IL music teachers and students get what they need to perform at the elite level. King explained that the Boosters raise money by operating concession stands at football and basketball games, in addition to selling band discount cards and other periodic fundraisers. They recently added an addition to the football stadium concession stand to allow for better work flow and more room to accommodate volunteers.
District Treasurer Coleen Reprogle gave a brief financial update saying tax collections were better than expected and the district five-year forecast has been updated to reflect current numbers.
Finally, the Board of Education voted to hire several coaches and supplemental positions. They also voted to promote ILES third grade teacher Pam Scarpella to ILES Assistant Principal. Scarpella has been with the district for 20 years and currently leads the Indian Lake PBIS efforts. She will replace Jeff Reprogle, who is retiring.
