message from IL School Nurse Kourtney:

Since returning from our extended Break, here is a friendly reminder in regards to isolation vs. quarantine as laid out by the CDC and followed by our local health department:

Isolation is for individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 or for symptomatic individuals who were exposed to a known positive, also called a “probable” case. Isolation lasts for 10 days from either a.) onset of symptoms or b.) date of test, whichever comes first.

Quarantine is for individuals exposed to a positive or probable COVID-19 case. Quarantine now lasts for 7-10 days from last exposure to a positive case.

If someone in the home tests positive for COVID they will need to isolate from everyone else in the home. We know isolation from the positive family member in the home is not always feasible due to their circumstances, and they are unable to isolate. But exposed individuals can then face longer periods of absence from resuming work, school, activities in these cases. The 7-10-day quarantine time for the exposed individuals in the home will not be able to begin until the 10 isolation period of the sick individual has ended.

Individuals who test positive and require isolation but live with others can accomplish this by staying in a specific “sick room” or area and away from other people including while eating. Use a separate bathroom, if available. Wear masks while moving throughout the home and keep windows cracked to improve ventilation.

Isolation vs quarantine

This message is from 11/1/20 Indian Lake Elementary School has a probable case of Covid-19 involving a food service staff member. As a result, the ILES cafeteria and kitchen will be closed Monday. This closure is being done out of an abundance of caution and with guidance from the Logan County Health District. Students will receive meals in their classrooms on Monday. Those meals will be prepared by staff at ILMS and ILHS and delivered for lunchtime.
The elementary school cafeteria and kitchen are sanitized daily. This one day closure will allow an extra round of sanitation. We anticipate the cafeteria will reopen as normal when school resumes on Wednesday after the students have Election Day off of school.

This is the final time I will be contacting you via an all-call to inform you of any Covid-19 cases in our district. From this point forward you can find updates on our website, the school app and social media on Facebook and Instagram.

This is a transcript of the all-call from IL Superintendent Rob Underwood on 10/5/20:

The purpose of this message is to provide the school community general awareness of a positive COVID-19 case at Indian Lake Elementary.  The families of the few students who were in direct contact with the individual have already been notified.  This is the first reported positive case at Indian Lake Schools.  This communication is intended to inform families, not to alarm them, so we kindly ask that you do not panic. COVID is among us all the time and we expect that there will be more cases throughout the school year, however, we have many practices in place to limit the spread and to keep our students safe.

This is not a notice of quarantine, rather an awareness for you to continue to check your child’s temperature and monitor for symptoms on a daily basis.  At this time, it is not necessary for your child to be tested for COVID-19.  If your child requires testing or quarantine, an official from the Health Department will contact you.  If your child or anyone in your home should develop symptoms, please call your primary care provider or the Logan County Health Department.  Do you not send your child to school or to activities when ill and please continue to wear masks in public and practice social distancing.  Unless you have been contacted by the Health Department, your child can continue to come to school if they are symptom free and healthy.
