The Indian Lake High School Class of 2021 is off to write, and if necessary rewrite, their story!

A total of 113 seniors graduated in Commencement Ceremonies held in Laker Stadium, for the first time in recent history. There was a buzz of celebration as hundreds of family and friends were able to watch the graduation in the fresh air.

Indian Lake Community Church Lighthouse Youth Pastor and ILHS alum Tara Cascioli was the commencement speaker. She told the graduates she understands the pressure they are under at this time to formulate their future.

“Many of you have a plan for what happens next, the next chapter of your story.  But if you don’t have your life written out on paper, that’s ok!” Cascioli said, “Don’t close your book just yet. You’re actually right where your story begins.”

Senior Class President Ashlyn Shaner also addressed her classmates. She took a quick trip down memory lane, recalling being the last class to have attended Huntsville Elementary School and laughing over how much they’ve grown as people since their middle school years.

“We were a menace to the teachers and administration at times!” Shaner joked.

As is tradition, Indian Lake Guidance Counselors Greg Tuttle and Alyce Weygant revealed the Top Ten students based on grade point average for the Class of 2021.

They are: (10) Hayden Pummel, (9) Douglas Bungard, (8) Kayla Roberts, (7) Samantha Swygart, (6) Ella Wagner, (5) Allix Cotterman, (4) Raelyn Parsell, (3) Salutatorian Jacob King and Valedictorians Ryan Braig and Ashlyn Shaner.

The entire Class of 2021 and many in the stadium gave a heartfelt standing ovation as the parents of Courtney Hubbard crossed the stage in her memory. Stacy Hubbard carried a doll in Courtney’s likeness, made by senior Isaac Fent, to receive her diploma. Courtney’s story ended much too soon when she took her own life in early 2020 after suffering from mental illness.

Shaner led the seniors in the turning of their tassels and hat toss, then they stepped out of the stadium as ILHS Graduates.

Prior to commencement, ILHS seniors hosted a baccalaureate ceremony in the auditorium.

Graduation Practice

The Indian Lake Class of 2021 is set for Commencement Ceremonies starting at 2 pm on Sunday, May 23rd.

They all gathered for graduation practice and a class cookout on their official last day of school. The seniors walked through what ceremonies will look like outside in the stadium and inside the main gym, if weather forces the ceremony inside.

A few notes on Graduation...

**If you plan to attend, please dress for hot weather. The forecast is predicting partly sunny, mid 80s. We will only move to the ILHS Main Gym in case of storms.

**Laker Stadium will open at 1:00 pm.

**Baccalaureate is at 1 pm in the Auditorium.

**Please bring water to stay hydrated.

**NO masks are required outside. IF we move inside, we ask that you wear a mask.

**Graduates must be dressed and in their seats in the Aux Gym at 1:45 pm.

**Graduation will be live streamed on the IL Schools Facebook page. Audio will be tied to the microphones, so the sound quality should be fine.

Congratulations to Ohio Hi-Point, Bellefontaine and Riverside as they graduate this evening! Let's have a safe weekend and we'll see you at the stadium on Sunday!

Class of 2021

Tara Cascioli
The ILHS 2021 Commencement Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Laker Stadium. There is no limit on the number of family members who may attend this exciting event.

Currently the forecast looks favorable for an outdoor ceremony. However, in case of inclement weather, we will move Graduation into the ILHS Main Gym. In light of recent easing of restrictions, we will not limit the number of family members who may attend a possible indoor ceremony and tickets will not be necessary. Because we are a state-funded public facility still under Ohio Health orders, we must require masks for anyone attending an inside graduation. In addition, we ask that you make reasonable decisions about who should be attending such a large gathering. If someone is immune-compromised or otherwise in poor health, we suggest they take advantage of our Facebook livestream broadcast of the ceremony.
The commencement speaker will be 2007 ILHS Graduate Tara Cascioli.

We very much look forward to welcoming our Class of 2021 family and friends and celebrating the many accomplishments of our Indian Lake Seniors!
